Women's Volleyball
HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opens a busy week with the first of two meetings with Texas State on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine (3-1) are coming off a split of a two-match series with Pepperdine over the weekend with both matches going to five sets. The 'Bows will play three matches in the five days and will host Texas State and Oregon State in the OUTRIGGER Invitational later in the week.

'BOWS NOTES
- The Rainbow Wahine have gone to five sets in three of their first four matches of the season after going the distance a total of five times in 2023.
- In the opener of the Pepperdine series, UH dropped a lopsided first set for the third straight match then rallied to take the next two before falling in the fifth. The 'Bows broke out to a hot start in the rematch to take a 2-0 lead then controlled the fifth setto earn the series split.
- UH outside hitter Caylen Alexander posted 48 kills in the series to move into the Big West lead with 4.89 kills per set for the season. The junior's average ranks seventh in the NCAA Division I entering the week.
- Alexander posted 20-plus kills in back-to-back matches for the first time in her career with 23 on Friday and 25 on Saturday. She went 6-for-10 without an error in the fifth set on Saturday.
- Senior libero Tayli Ikenaga put together back-to-back career performances in posting 60 digs in a two-match series with Pepperdine. The senior libero set a career best with 27 digs in the opener then popped up 33 in Saturday's five-set victory. She passed the 900-dig mark for her career on Friday andwas rewarded with her first Big West Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday.
- Setter Kate Lang moved up to eighth on UH's career assists chart with last week's series. She distributed 99 assists over two matches with Pepperdineto raise her career total to 3,405 and passed Nikki Hubbert (3,368, 1996-98). The senior is averaging 9.21 assists per set this season and 10.32 for her career.
- Texas State is visiting Honolulu for the second time in three years and will also play in the OUTRIGGER Invitational later in the week. The 'Bows and Bobcats meet again on Saturday in the tournament finale.
THE MATCHUP
- UH leads the all-time series with Texas State 3-0.
- Texas State will visit SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center for the second time in three years.
- UH swept their last meeting (28-26, 25-20, 27-25)on Sept. 1, 2022 in the OUTRIGGER Volleyball Challenge. The teams previously met in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament with UH sweeping the Bobcats in Austin, Texas.
- The Bobcats captured the Sun Belt Conference West Division title last season, going 20-10 overall and 12-4 in conference play and topped the division's preseason poll entering this season.
- Texas State earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament last season, falling to SMU in the first round in Austin, Texas.
- The Bobcats are led by fifth-year head coach Sean Huiet, who has a career record of 98-40. The Bobcats are 55-9 in Sun Belt play under his leadership. He previously served as an assistant coach and associate coach for 14 years.
- The Bobcats enter the week at 3-2 and split their matches last week with a four-set win over UTSA on Sept. 4and a three-setloss at Texas A&M on Sept. 6.
- Freshman outside hitter MJ McCurdy leads Texas State with 2.79 kills per set on .277 hitting. Sophomore Samantha Wunsch is next with 2.74 kps.
- Middle blocker Jade Defraeye was the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year last season and leads the Bobcats with 18 blocks (1.20 per set) this season.
