HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team caps its season-opening homestand by playing host to the OUTRIGGER Invitational set for Sept. 12-14 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The tournament opens with Texas State and Oregon State meeting on Thursday afternoon. The Rainbow Wahine then face Oregon State on Friday and close the tournament against Texas State on Saturday in a rematch of their meeting earlier in the week.

'BOWS NOTES
- The Rainbow Wahine improved to 4-1 with a four-set victory over Texas State in a stand-alone match on Tuesday, the first of two meetings between the 'Bows and Bobcats this week.
- Caylen Alexander led UH with 20 kills on Tuesday, remaining atop the Big West and rising to sixth in the nation with 4.91 kills per set. She also leads the conference and ranks ninth nationally with 5.46 points per set. Alexander's 113 total kills ranks second in the Big West and 10th in the nation.
- Alexander became the first UH player to post 20-plus kills in three consecutive matches since McKenna Granato's run of three straight in 2017. Alexander recordedat least 20 kills in four of UH's five matches this season.
- Alexander is also tied for second on the team with 2.48 digs per set and has four double-doubles (kills-digs) in five matches.
- Outside hitter Stella Adeyemi has posted double-digit kills in four matches this season. She had her most efficient performance of the season against Pepperdine on Sept. 7 with 13 kills in 27 attempts with three errors to hit .370.
- UH's defense is averaging 14.70 digs per set led by reigning Big West Defensive Player of the Week Tayli Ikenaga's 4.13 dps. Alexander and outside hitter Tali Hakas are next at 2.48 dps.
- Middle blocker Jacyn Bamisrecorded double-digit kills in the last two matches. She set a career high with 11 kills against Pepperdine on Sept. 7 andposted10 against Texas State on Tuesday. Sheleads the team with 17 total blocks and issecond with five service aces.
- Freshman Miliana Sylvester has started all five games and has two double-digit kill performances. She's second on the team with 16 total blocks, including a team-high four solo.
- Kate Lang has two double-doubles this season to raise her career total to 37. Along with distributing 9.30 assists per set this season, the senior looked for her opportunities more often in Tuesday's match with Texas State with four kills in 10 attempts, both season highs.
- Freshman Victoria Leyva has started the last two matches in the back row as a defensive specialist. She has three double-digit dig performances and leads the team with six aces.
THE MATCHUPSOREGON STATE
- UH leads theall-time series 5-1.
- The series began in 1984 with UH sweeping a two-match series. The 'Bows also defeated the Beavers twice in 1991.
- UH swept the last meeting with OSU 25-20, 25-19, 25-11 on Aug. 30, 2015 in the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
- Oregon State's lone win over UH came on Aug. 26, 2007 (33-31, 30-21, 30-26)on the final day of the Asics Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
- Oregon State will play in its third early-season tournament this weekend. The Beavers opened the season in the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., thenplayed in the Roadrunner Classic hosted by CSU Bakersfield. They'll play their first home game on Sept. 17.
- The Beavers have two Hawai'i high school graduates on their roster, Emma Lilo (Kamehameha) and Alexis Rodriguez (Mililani).
- Lilo has started five matches and leads OSU with 175 assists (8.75 per set).
- Lilo and UH freshman Adrianna Arquette were high school teammates at Kamehameha-Kapālama.
- Outside hitter Lauren Rumel leads the OSU attack with 3.95 kills per set. Opposite Annika Hester is next at 3.20 kps.
- Oregon State is the third West Coast Conference team UH will face this season. The 'Bows defeated San Diego and split a series with Pepperdine.
TEXAS STATE
- UH improved to 4-0 in the all-time series with Tuesday's four-set win.
- Texas State is visiting SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center for the second time in three years.
- UH swept their meeting on Sept. 1, 2022 in the OUTRIGGER Volleyball Challenge. The teams previously met in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament with UH sweeping the Bobcats in Austin, Texas.
- The Bobcats earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament last season, falling to SMU in the first round in Austin, Texas.
- The Bobcats are led by fifth-year head coach Sean Huiet, who has a career record of 98-41. The Bobcats are 55-9 in Sun Belt play under his leadership. He previously served as an assistant coach and associate coach for 14 years.
- Outside hitter Samantha Wunsch and middle blocker Bailey Hanner led Texas State with 11 kills each in Tuesday's match with UH. Setter Ryann Torres had 37 assists and five kills.
- Wunsch moved into the team lead with 63 total kills (2.74 per set). Freshman outside hitter MJ McCurdy is next at 2.65 kps.
- Middle blocker Jade Defraeye was the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year last season and leads the Bobcats with 23 blocks (1.21 per set). She had five block assists on Tuesday.
